Interactive quiz app for Game of Thrones final season
An interactive quiz app built by CODEWAVE for HBO’s Game of Thrones final season, engaging fans worldwide with personalized “small council” results.
About the client
Verizon is one of the world’s leading technology and communications companies, providing innovative solutions in connectivity, digital media, and entertainment. The company wanted to engage online audiences through an interactive experience inspired by the premiere of the final season of Game of Thrones, combining technology with creativity to spark social media buzz.
The challenge
The main challenge was time. The campaign had to launch in sync with the season premiere, leaving our team only two weeks to design, build, test, and deliver the entire product. Despite the short timeline, the solution needed to be visually appealing, easy to use, and scalable enough to handle heavy fan traffic once the campaign went live.

The solution
We built a quiz-style web application where fans answered five questions to discover their ideal “small council.” Based on their answers, the app selected relevant characters and created a personalised image featuring the user’s name and council members, ready to share on Twitter and Facebook. Amazon Lambda handled image generation, while Amazon S3 stored the generated visuals.
We developed and deployed the application using CODEWAVE's self-hosted Kubernetes cluster, giving the campaign a stable and scalable technical foundation. This gave the campaign a stable and scalable technical foundation. Despite the two-week deadline, the application launched in time for the season premiere and gave fans a personalised, shareable way to engage with the campaign across social media.

The result
The app was delivered in just two weeks and launched in time for the final-season premiere. Fans could complete the quiz, receive a personalised “small council” image and share it directly on social media. The serverless backend generated and stored each image efficiently, while the scalable infrastructure prepared the application for high campaign traffic. Verizon gained an engaging digital experience that turned viewers into active participants and extended the campaign’s reach through social sharing.

The summary
The Game of Thrones quiz project demonstrated how technology and creativity can come together to deliver a viral experience under extreme time pressure. In just two weeks, our team built a scalable, interactive solution that transformed fans into participants — and social media into the stage for their own stories.
